Richard Castle born in Basingstoke 1838 ( Bunnion Place and Basingstoke Common, stated as places of residence ). His mother was Hannah Castle 1816 ( unmarried at birth ). He joined the Police Force, beeing based at Wantage, joined July 19th 1856, he also had time residing at the prison for awhile, he married Elizabeth Spanswick of Eastbury in St James of Eastbury, on Feb 2nd 1862. He resigned on Nov 10th 1862.
My wifes gt grandfather was RICHARD CASTLE born in Basingstoke 1838 , in 1852 he joined the Police force , serving in Uffinham , in 1862 8th Feb he married Elizabeth Spanswick ( 1841 ), at ST JAMES, EASTBURY. Her father Charles Spanswick is mentioned in the millinium Eastbury book, - "Machine Breaking ". I have info of all this plus Castles up to date, but Richards family vague, still looking. John Grey Fairbairn, who opened the store in Liphook Square in 1895 had ancestors tracing back to Penicuik in Scotland. Amongst his Great Great X Grandparents was James Fairbairn the Schoolteacher in Penicuik in the 1720/40 period. He was the first known of many Schoolteachers in the family.There were a number of John Grey Fairbairns in John's family. The Grey in the family comes from the marriage of George Fairbairn to Jean Grey in Penicuik in 1815.
